Why We Put Off Getting Branding Headshots
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to put off getting new headshots?
Most people put off getting professional headshots because they don’t realize how much easier, and more enjoyable, the experience can be when it’s thoughtfully planned instead of rushed.
It doesn’t feel urgent until one day it is.
Maybe you’re updating your website. Maybe you’ve been invited to speak. Maybe you need a current LinkedIn profile photo, or someone asks for a professional portrait for an article or publication. Suddenly you’re searching for the first available photographer instead of taking the time to find the right one.
Maybe your hair is overdue for a color or a haircut. You haven’t really thought about what you’re going to wear. You haven’t had time to think about the message you want your image to communicate.
You’re just trying to get a picture because you need one.
Unfortunately, that’s rarely when we’re able to create photographs you’ll truly love.
After years of photographing business owners and professionals, I’ve noticed something.
The biggest obstacle usually isn’t the camera.
It’s everything that happens before the session.
People worry about what to wear. They wonder if they should lose or gain some weight first. They worry about their hair. They wonder if they’ll know how to pose. They worry they won’t look relaxed.
That’s a lot of hidden anxiety to carry into a portrait session.
The good news is that it doesn’t have to be that way.
I can’t speak for every photographer, but I can tell you how I approach it.
Before we ever take the first photograph, we’ll talk about the message you want your images to communicate. We’ll choose clothing together, talk through your goals, and answer all of those little questions before your session.
When you walk into the studio, you’ll know exactly what’s happening next. You’ll feel prepared. You’ll realize that you don’t have to be the star of your own show that day or know how to pose.
All you have to do is show up.
I’ll take care of the rest.
One last thought…
If you’re waiting until you feel completely ready to have your headshots taken, my advice is to start planning now.
Otherwise, you may find yourself rushing to get something done at the last minute, and that’s rarely when your best photographs are created.
Let’s create photographs you’re proud of before you need them, so they’re ready when opportunity knocks.
Give me a call. I’d love to help. 😉
